      Course Architect

      Arnold Palmer designed the course, which opened in 1991. Arnold Palmer Design oversaw renovations in 2005 and 2015.

      Field

      A starting field of 132 players will compete in the 2018 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship at Orchid Island. Approximately one month before the start of the championship, sectional qualifying, played over 18 holes, will be conducted at 20+ sites nationwide.  

      Eligibility 

      The championship is open to female amateur golfers who have reached their 50th birthday by the first day of the championship (Oct. 6, 2018) and have a Handicap Index® not exceeding 18.4. The record for entries, 554, was set in 2014.

      Format

      The low 64 scorers following stroke play will qualify for match play. If necessary, a playoff will be conducted to determine the final spots in the draw.

      About the USGA

      The USGA conducts 13 national championships each year, which are the most prestigious competitions of their kind. They include the U.S. Open, the U.S. Women’s Open and the U.S. Senior Open, as well as 10 strictly amateur competitions, like the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur.

      Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club, located in the Town of Orchid, is situated on the barrier island just north of Vero Beach. It is bordered to the west by the Indian River (Intracoastal Waterway), to the south by County Route 510 (Wabasso Bridge Road), and to the east by the Atlantic Ocean. The property is 80 miles north of Palm Beach, 30 miles south of Melbourne and 100 miles southeast of Orlando.

    • SUNRISE & SUNSET on Thursday, October 4, 2018 are at 7:15 a.m. and 7:04 p.m., respectively.  (Light begins approximately 25 minutes prior to sunrise and ends 25 minutes after sunset.)

      PARKING for Players

      Morning tee times, park at the Golf Club
      Afternoon tee times, park at the Beach Club

      TRANSPORTATION
      Two (2) shuttles will run between the Beach Club and Golf Club from 10:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. for the Practice and Stroke Play Rounds; wait time will 5 minutes or less. NOTE: Players’ CADDIES and Guests driving in separate cars MUST park at the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) (location and map provided below)


      MATCH PLAY ROUNDS 

      PARKING for all Players
      at the Golf Club

      PARKING for USGA COMMITTEE/STAFF:
      Park at the Tennis & Fitness Center from Thursday (Oct 4) through Tuesday (Oct 9) and at the Golf Club on Wednesday (Oct 10) & Thursday (Oct 11).

      ***USGA Committee and Staff may park at the Beach Club for the dinners on Thursday, Friday and Monday evenings.***

      PARKING for VOLUNTEERS/CADDIES, GUESTS & SPECTATORS IN SEPARATE CARS:
      Park from Thursday throughTuesday at the Environmental Learning Center (ELC) and thereafter at the Golf Club.

      TRANSPORTATION
      *One shuttle (1) on Thursday & Friday from 7 a.m.- 6 p.m. between Golf Club, Tennis & Fitness Center, and the ELC; 15 minutes or less wait time.

      *Two shuttles (2) on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. between the Environmental Learning Center (ELC), the Tennis & Fitness Center, and the Golf Club; 10 minutes or less wait time.

      *One shuttle (1) on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. between the ELC, Tennis & Fitness Center and Golf Club; 15-minute maximum wait time.
